Snake ID (no pic, so a challenge for the experts)

I hunted the Tensas lottery hunt a couple weekends ago, and while I was there I saw a snake when scouting some between hunts. It was maybe 6-8 inches long maybe 10 max, really small and light browned/copper colored. I thought it was an earthworm when I first saw it move actually. My buddy and I were too mesmerized to get a pic. What snake is this?
It may be common, but I never hunted up around there before and had never seen one like it. Any ideas?

Eastern Worm Snake
Highly dangerous, can kill with just a look.

Big skink? You didn't see the legs?

Yeah, they're small at first but they grow into these.
Really though, could have been a copperhead or a dozen other things if in fact it was a snake. No pic, no real answer.

I had these in my yard in Alexandria. Lots of color variation.
Unless it had a pattern, then maybe a Dekay's.
