you possess the resolution. "New Year" in this case is just describing the type of resolutions.

My resolution is to lose weight

is the same as

My New Year (acting as an adjective) Resolution is to lose weight.

If you made a resolution on your birthday, it would be your "birthday resolution"

Technically both your way and my way or correct. Your way just doesn't flow when speaking.

Without a doubt, New Years is wrong.
