Why did Nobles even bother posting decrees in peasant villages?

I mean... NOBODY could read back then. Peasants couldn't even afford paper and ink.
They probably used some Army peon who couldn't read to post it in the village. Someone probably read the decree to the army idiot - who tried to memorize it.
He spends 2 days travelling to the village probably reciting this shyt in his head and has it all twisted up by the time he gets there.
He has to impress the peasants so he recites the wrong shite (acting like he's reading it) to them.
Then, they just pass what he said on by mouth and it gets even more twisted and mangled after a few days.
What an awful system of communication.

They stood there and stared at the words.
That was scary enough.

Why did you capitalize nobles?

They may have had someone who could read bring it from town to town, and read it aloud.
Nobody will ever know. That's what's so great about history.

It's regarded as the birth of the "banana phone"... Fact.

Because most villages didn't have cable or wifi.

do you even history bro?
town criers or local priests would typically convey news like this to illiterate townspeople or farmers. and it wouldn't matter if they "got it right" - the peasants would be subject to the laws regardless.
and nobleman wouldn't need to spend two days traveling to peasant villages - in medieval times at least the peasants would live on the manor of the lords or nobles.
