His breathing would be kind of loud and erratic......then nothing. Hated it hated it hated it. I'd hop out of bed so fast and lean over his mouth just to check.
I don't know how many times I'd jump back into bed and tell my wife "he's still alive".

Yep. We'd make the same exact joke. It's no where near how it was, but I still do similar things to this day. Just last night my 3 year old little girl, who's sick right now, was coughing and coughing hours after she had been put to bed. Then I realized later that I hadn't heard her cough in a while. "I'll be back. I need to make sure she's still breathing."
