Could someone explain to me why recruiting services/modern day Solomons automatically rate the snappers like the Fergusons 2 stars or placekickers in general 2* or 3*? Why isn't the best snapper rated at least a 4* and the best PK rated a 5*? I'm sure most would agree that PKs decide probably more games than any other position other than QB. Ask Notre Dame this season...ask LSU for that matter. Who gives a damn what the 40 time of a placekicker is!

1. well, it has a lot to do with the fact that people don't pay for services to rank kickers and long snappers. Most don't care and it's an after thought. They want to see articles on the top rated QB's, RB's, OT's and WR's. No one wants to read an article on a punter.

2. these two specific positions tend to have their own camps. Meaning, they don't all attend the same camps that others do.

3. There are not enough recruiter service staff members out there to adequately rate these kids.

4. most of these service staff members don't know how to adequately rank a punter or kicker. It's a tough position to evaluate unless you're a pro in that specific area.

5. Also, most guys state that it's almost impossible to predict this position. Some of the most highly recruited end up being nothing in college and the walk ons end up in the NFL.

247's take is that they rate players based on NFL draft value and you rarely see a kicker drafted in the first 3 rounds, and maybe 1 or 2 snappers get drafted late every year. They are projecting 5 stars to be future first-round picks, obviously not very successfully, but that's what their aim is at least.
