We got a new neighbor, and he was tellin me he loves some coon, and had a few in the freezer. Never met anyone before that ate coon. Any good?

if it's cleaned right, yes. If not, taste like dirty socks.

They'll take over a neighborhood.

Not a fan of them, but yes, I ate them. I find the meat gets stringy.

Yes. I killed a coon and brought it home to my mom when I was younger. She cooked it.

Not sure if it was just how she cooked it or if it is just how they are, but I remember it being very greasy and not that great.

Yep, its a cross between rabbit and tree rat. Cooked down in a gravy my experience was good.

A few years ago, my grandpa pressure cooked a coon then threw some BBQ sauce on it.

House smelled horrible, it was extremely greasy.

I've had it, but it had had the lymph nodes pulled on cleaning, fat trimmed, then par boiled and water changed. Was OK. Not something I'd really get a craving for.

Was probably 30 years ago if that tells you anything.

I've had it a couple of times. Not once was it something I really liked. I agree with the poster who said the meat gets stringy.

Unfortunately, yes.

Smoked coon comes out super gamey.

Got a black dude named Duck that works for us that loves a coon. I whack one or two a year for old Duck. He called the other day wanting him a coon for Crimus, so if I see one this weekend he will die.

Old boar coon is not good. Gamey and stringy.

Young male or sow coon is good if you mind the hair and get the glands out.

If someone is giving you a coon or you are giving one to somebody tell them to leave the feet on. It's courtesy.

Eat the young ones. Like a different animal than full grown coons.

Also, don't eat subdivision and city coons. Country coons, raised on corn are the best.

Remove musk glands, smoke in a traditional smokehouse, and put in a chicken and andouille gumbo.

About 23 years ago. Got cold on a deerstand and dad let me walk back to the camp. They guys there offered me some bbq. I couldnt get enough of it. Dad got back and my face was covered in bbq sauce. Thats when I found out what it was.
