My thoughts on the games: Southern Lab wins a close one vs OCS due to some very solid talent. OCS keeps it close because of solid fundamentals. CBA wins by 14 over CHNI, but the score is something like 56-42. ULab dominates PBS, should be the most lopsided game of the day. JCCS and Jesuit duke it out and the game is decided on who made the least amount of errors, something Jesuit looks ready to take advantage of. Gotta have Jesuit as a slight favorite right now.

Highest combined score of the group more than likely.

Calvary has an elite defensive back field, but Catholic NI runs a version of the Wing T and threw only two passes against Newman. Catholic should have won last year, and they are better this year, but Calvary's offense is practically unstoppable at this level. Calvary is definitely the favorite, but the same was true last year and they escaped with 1 point win with an interception after CHNI had 1st and goal from the 5 with less than a minute to play. Hopefully they pull it off this time around.

I'm a Crusader fan.
I don't often make predictions, but I will. I can't see Jesuit beating Curtis. Jesuit is a good team, and in all sports play almost mistake-free, and fundamentally sound. It's their way, it's why they can beat Brother Martin's more talented basketball teams. They play "right."

However, Curtis' defensive line is the quickest I have ever seen at the high school level. Broggi is not over-rated, he's not under-rated, he is a good quarterback, but not a great one. Friday night, the Curtis line and blitz were on him within 2 steps. They are that blindingly quick off the snap. That's how they got the blocked punt, and the backfield INT at the end of the second quarter which changed the entire game, giving Curtis momentum going into halftime, creating a 14 point swing and which increased with the first possession of the second half.

Once Martin HAD to pass, it was all over, and even the completions were for losses. That's no way to play catch-up football. A line that quick knowing the offense has to pass and it's all over.

These four games on a Friday are straight-up shitty by the LHSAA. It's deliberate, designed to make life miserable for the private schools, especially since the publics are hitting the semi-finals this weekend. Suck it up and pay Dome rental for two nights if this is the way YOU voted for it to be.

It should be a fun day for road trips, though.
