I had no idea what to expect going in, didn't see any advertising for it, but I loved Guardians of the Galaxy. Such a fun movie, best I've seen this year.

I will definitely be forgetting/omitting some (and there are some I haven't seen), but my personal favorites are:

1. Whiplash
2. Gone Girl
3. Nightcrawler
4. Fury
5. Birdman

Honorable mentions (in no particular order): X-Men DoFP, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Edge of Tomorrow, Interstellar

That was a tough list to make. And looking at it now, it looks pretty crazy. It's been a weird year. List is definitely subject to change.

Edge of Tomorrow

I really really don't understand the hype for this movie. I thought this movie was not that good and was pretty boring to me.
