The Truth: drinking is better for your health than abstaining

quote:
ce that abstinence from alcohol is a cause of heart disease and early death is irrefutable—yet this is almost unmentionable in the United States. Even as health bodies like the CDC and Dietary Guidelines for Americans (prepared by Health and Human Services) now recognize the decisive benefits from moderate drinking, each such announcement is met by an onslaught of opposition and criticism, and is always at risk of being reversed.
quote:
Even drinking more than is recommended, without displaying clinical symptoms of problem drinking or alcohol dependence (and these are not subtle), is generally better for you than drinking nothing.

It's a paper citing numerous studies and other papers...I guess I could have pulled and linked those too, but this one article seems more efficient.

My thought is that anything normal that relieves stress is good, at least in moderation on a regular basis.
Including sex, booze, exercise, sleep

With my high level of income and the advancement of medical science... along with this new information about alcohol; it's conceivable that I can live to two-maybe-three hundred years old.

The paper caveats women with the breast cancer gene, otherwise they experience the same benefits.

Cigarettes too. I smoke 2-4 a day and feel just fine. It's the pack a day smokers that are killing themselves.

Not a "new" study....but, generally, yes, people put too much stock in new studies.

My uncle had an atrial fibrillation and the doc said that the fact that he drank like a fish probably kept him from clotting because his blood was so thin.
