Bug, I'm not about to question your findings from your aged beers, but I don't think the fridge is the problem, unless it doesn't work properly and wildly fluctuates in temperature.
I've stored beer in a closet for years now, and I don't recall any that suffered from it. I think a stable temp may be more important than an exact temp
