Since 2006, McCarthy has won his division 4 times and gone to the playoffs 6 times.
Since 2006, Payton has won his division 3 times and gone to the playoffs 5 times.
So he's gone into the playoffs one more time than Payton, led his division one more time than Payton, but has 1 more year of coaching than Payton, but his record is pretty much the same. (remember CSP loses 2012).
6-5 for mccarthy
6-4 for payton
Sounds to me like if one is elite, so is the other. Both have franchise elite QBs, both are always playing with bad defenses, and both have solid offenses year in and year out.

Where did I say McCarthy is elite? I said he's one of the top 5
