Hopefully they wouldn't try to set these more on fire than what they already would be.

Someone posted pics of tents that they were setting up as "warming stations" a couple of days ago. I'm curious.... Do you take a break from looting to stop by and grab some hot chocolate and warm your hands?

However I do question not if it was proper to shoot Michael Brown; it probably was. My question is why the excessive shots?

This is a common misconception of the public. This isn't a video game where you just shoot. You get what is called "tunnel vision" and you don't know how many shots you fire in a situation like this. It happens so fast and the adrenaline is pumping pretty hard at this point. The head shot is the one that stopped him.

Officers in this situation only have a accuracy of around 25%. On the most guys shoot 90% at a paper target and then in real life it goes down to 25%.

What is excessive about it? The officer testified that the last shot struck Brown in the head and he collapsed. He shot as many times as it took to stop the threat.

In this case he had 13 rounds and hit what.. 6? And one or two were at close range?

Yea I like it how a lot of people think these cops are like super humans. They look at the injuries to Wilson and say they aren't bad enough. And then they also say he should shoot him less times. So this guy who is out doing his job is supposed to take a severe beating before he can retaliate and when he does he needs to use as little force as possible. C'mon that's ridiclous.

Before this thread dies I feel obliged to repost this from another thread. Enjoy.

The problem is these subhumanized views of black and brown people have been held by white people for hundreds of years. The last "40 years" and the more modern plights of black people doesn't explain why the same biases and attitudes from centuries ago persist to today.

That's something white people need to ask themselves. Why haven't our views on certain groups evolved as quickly as the laws that govern us have?

Respectability politics goes back to the times of slaves. The same banter persisted "do x, y, z and whites will respect you and stop Being racist towards you." The colored person will do x, y, z, a, b, and c and will still be treated poorly, humiliated, doubted, etc.

At some point, white people are going to have to expect more from their own, emotionally.

My question is why the excessive shots? The head shot, which came after, seemed excessive to me.

You asked an honest question so I will build off of the response of others. Once the decision was made to use deadly force (which took less than a second) then training takes over. He would continue to engage until the target was neutralized/no longer presenting a threat. It is not about number of shots (he is not even counting them - he would have kept firing until he had an empty chamber and then would have transitioned to a reload drill) but rather intended effect. Excessive would have been if Mike Brown was on the ground, incapacitated and Officer Wilson walks up to him and shoots him again.

Sorry. Those are the facts. This is not a video game where you immediately know the effect of your fire on your target. This is real life.

Poor training

Always count your shots so when you do a magazine change you still have a round in the chamber and covering the threat

With the adreneline flowing, the first (and probably last) time he has ever fired his weapon on duty, I will give him some latitude. Also, he had already expended two rounds in his vehicle, so I am personally of the opinion he lost count. Bottom line, we both know he was tracking effect (he flinched) rather than round count.

Still never ceases to amaze me how people think he was excessive solely based upon number of rounds fired.

Easier said than done. I've had it drilled into me and I still go empty on the range every now and then.
