People respect Stanford sports a lot more than they do Notre Dame. Enjoying them lose doesn't mean you care about them. I wouldn't wish a lose to anyone/anything I care about.

enjoying them winning or losing certainly means you care about them.

you care enough about them to feel excitement and joy whenever they lose.

If you follow close enough to know whether they win or lose, then you care. That is pretty simple.

Also, I respect ND more than Stanford because historically ND has a much superior football history with similar academic restrictions. Stanford is a perennial average to doormat program so they don't threaten anyone's sensibilities like ND does.
