They already give the home town team a solid boost with Bird Rights and higher years/$$. The repeater tax is a concern for teams, but you can be good and not pay the tax.

The one thing they should think about is the negative incentive to sign an extension with your current team. No star will ever re-sign before hitting UFA because of the current CBA rules. They did it to stop the Melo type trade and extend situations, but it has other consequences.

I don't know. The Lakers were nowhere near competitive last year and didn't have much of a future going forward when they offered Kobe the $$. Dirk feels like they can win a title this year. Kobe had to know they weren't. Why take less to be on a shitty team?
