If someone with known or suspected contact with someone who had Ebola shows symptoms, they should be isolated and no one should come into direct contact with them. In truth it appears that it takes 12-24+ hours to become contagious, but the onset of symptoms seems to be a reasonable time to begin isolation since the contagious stage of the disease is coming.

I think that some people are making too much of the medical community's precautions regarding Ebola, they are obviously erring on the side of caution. When someone is showing symptoms they are possibly contagious, when they aren't symptomatic they aren't contagious.
