Learn something new everyday. Had never heard of a Canal that connected all the way to the lake that went past Rampart St (hence the name)

there was another way from the lake to the river that we learned about in Louisiana History, that has since been closed up. I think it's through Lake Maurepas, and by Tickfaw.

But yes, when the walls (Ramparts) to the city were built, canals butted up to them.


I know one of the canals became Esplanade avenue, I think the Carondolet canal.

I need to find my book. I have a New Orleans History book for the 1880's with come cool maps and stuff in it.
