What was the I-10 built on top of?

Hint* why does West End have that really wide neutral ground?

Sorry, I meant 90. Or at least the bridge. Was it anything west of Lee Circle? In which case that changes some things.

I have a really old Map of NOLA. Tivoli Circle has always been in the area we call downtown or more specifically it's at the boundary of the CBD and the warehouse district. There used to be a canal that ran from the river to the lake, the ponchartrain expressway was built on top of it.

Another canal was to be built separating the "new" city from the old city, but it was never built and the land set aside for it became canal street.

Uptown annexed the Jefferson Parish city of Carrolton which included Hollygrove. It is uptown, but it's not "Uptown".
