The band died when Frank stepped down and LSU went cheap, safe, or whatever the frick it was to promote Roy King.
He's a dud.
Roy King is a complete and utter piece of shite, on top of being a lazy, talentless hack.

How did this happen?
See above.
My nephew just graduated after coming to LSU on a band scholarship. No joke, he was one of the most talented kids you will ever see pick up an instrument, and the level of disgust and disdain within the band itself for Roy that he describes is absolutely shocking.
They never should have picked Roy over the lady (who's name escapes me right now) who had been groomed to take take over when the previous director quit.

The band didn't play the alma mater?

Linda Moorhouse. She's at University of Illinois now.

I'm sorry that your nephew didn't get to experience the band with Wickes as director. That man put his heart and soul into his job, and continued the proud tradition of the band.
People can say this doesn't matter and make band nerd comments all they want. But the one thing that is as much a part of the LSU tradition as everything else was that LSU historically always had a very strong nationally recognized marching band. Even in the horrible decade under Archer and Hallman, LSU's band was always among the best in the SEC.
LSU stole Frank from Florida, Maybe they can steal another one and let Roy King go be what he wants to be, a high school band director. I've seen and heard high school bands that are better than LSU's current band.
