Spears fired, audience in disbelief and rage following
I like him. Doesn't take "no" for an answer.
quote:
Despite 3.5 hours of emotion from nearly 50 speakers who expressed their reasons on why Willie Spears should not be terminated, the Escambia County School District's board voted 3-2 in favor of Superintendent Malcolm Thomas' recommendation to fire Spears Tuesday at the J.E. Hall Educational Services Center.
quote:
"Mr. Superintendent (Malcolm Thomas), I'm sorry for being insubordinate," Spears said.
quote:
"If this was just about recruiting, I wouldn't recommend that you (Spears) be terminated," Thomas said during the meeting.
It was Escambia's first home game, in which Thomas advised Escambia principal Mike Sherrill to not play the six football players in question.
After he defied that request, superintendent Thomas said he could not look past Spear's action.
I like him. Doesn't take "no" for an answer.

I thought Lionel Washington was a candidate. Don't see his name there

Add Joe Wilbright to the list. He coaches the middle school team at Youree Middle School in Shreveport. Hell of a coach.

Are these people with "No affiliation" just some random dudes that submitted name? Not even coaches anywhere? NCAA Xbox legends?

My guess is that they have some coaching experience (I'm hoping at least) but that they currently are not employed.
Man this is a terrible list.

Why not Phil Fulmer or Houston Nutt.
Mack Brown is out there.

Any good coach knows better than to dive into that cesspool. To think that the previous head coach actually thought that the program was on the rise.

Do you really think any coaches worth a darn would send their resume through HR?
They've interviewed a bunch of people that are not on this list. Most of the coaches that interviewed are with their current FBS and FCS teams. Any public request could potentially jeopardize their current jobs. Remember this position opened up earlier than most. Coaching searches typically happen after the season when there is a ton of movement so more people "Officially" apply.
This opening like any other D1 head coaching position has a lot of interest. As per my contact within the department.
