this is a good summary of the situation

LINK

quote:

Gordon's massive contract makes this decision tougher than other similar situations, but Monty is paid big dollars to make these types of decisions. Inserting Rivers into the starting lineup would require Monty to stagger lineups so that there is a ball handler on the court with Gordon because he is just too careless with the ball while dribbling. I propose that at a minimum, the Pels give Rivers 28 minutes (up from his 22 minute per game average) and drop Gordon to 20-22 minutes per game (down from his 32.8!) until he starts showing some semblance of the NBA player formerly known as Eric Gordon.

this is all, for better or worse, on monty. he didnt ask for his highest paid player to struggle, but now its up to him to do something to make it better. leaving the situation as is (starting EG/playing him 30 mins) with a "let him shoot his way out" mentality is a failure of leadership in my view. i hope they are working on solutions

I understand what you're saying, but EG has been very strong defensively which is the only reason why I would be against reducing his minutes. Even with his offensive struggles, he is a better option than Rivers b/c of the great defense he's been play thus far. Like I said in my previous post, give him a little more time and his offensive game will come around. We are only 4 games into the season. Just b/c he's in a slump early that's not a reason to reduce his minutes yet especially when he's putting forth great effort on the defensive end.

That part of that article is the definition of over reaction.

Eric Gordon (13.2) has a lower career TO rate than both Evans (14) and Holiday (17). Those rates were basically the same last year. And Rivers was only slightly better than Gordon.

The fact is the team doesn't turn it over much because they don't pass it much. That and OREB allow them to overcome poor shooting and a shitty scheme

Gordon is off right now, but acting like he is a TO machine is a fiction. Maybe he doesn't turn it around, but there are thousands of minutes that say we should be more worried about Holiday than Gordon
