Two years ago, the Silicon Valley Chamber of Commerce claimed if San Jose's minimum wage went up to $10 an hour, the city would lose 2,800 jobs. But the numbers are in after voters approved the minimum wage increase, and they tell a much different story.

Is this just anecdotal? Is raising minimum wage still a bad idea?

yeah. Tech is booming and driving unemployment down. I bet they can't even fill those spots for $10.

It's very anectodal

San Jose already has high wages and a high cost of living due to the tech sector. Most places were probably already paying around that.

The problem is forcing a statewide or nationwide minimum wage hike to where certain locations can not afford to take the increase hit. Places like San Jose can

Do you have any idea what the cost of living in Silicon Valley is?

Do you not remember all the media reporting 1000 +/- sq ft homes going for 700-900K+?

That pocket of America is unique and I would assume there aren't too many that are paying workers that low of wage there.

See, I really have no problem with this. Different things work for different areas of the country. Now, with that data, some other community should try it and see what happens. If it doesnt work for a specific community, its much easier to change the floor.

I would bet that raising minimum wage for the entire country would have a net negative impact, and, as we all know, there would be no going back.
