I'm strongly against it, honestly when I see hate ads it makes me dislike the person doing them more than the person they are bashing. I especially dislike the ones that take a one sentence clip of the other person and spin it out of control

It's part of the deal.

I would never support censorship.

ETA: fwiw, I don't care for them either.

makes a candidate seem desperate to me when all they can do is point out how had the other guy sux instead of what they can bring voters

Obviously not, but what does that have to do with negative ads?

Me either, that is why I change the channel as soon as a political ad comes on.

I dislike them and think they are counterproductive; however, they should be free to run them. I just wish there were more natural consequences (e.g., turned people off) so they would stop using them.

I like them. Getting people to hate the enemy creates mistrust and distrust in the system and makes revolutionary change more possible. People called each other horrible names on the eve of the civil war and during the civil rights movement and it led to revolutionary change.

You have to get people mad for change.

We're not going to build your socialist utopia with negative campaign adds.

RW, I'm getting worried about you bro. I think you are trolling sure, but if you repeat the same nonsense again and again you might start believing it. Maybe a new hobby is called for. I hear cross stitch or knitting can be very relaxing.

As for political attack ads, they won't go away no matter how much we'd all love to be free of them. They've been part of the political arsenal for a very long time, just changing up a bit over the years to match the new medias, and our Founding Fathers used attack campaigns that would make modern political ads seem like a polite disagreement about what type of rose grows best in a given climate.

As much as they suck we are stuck with them. Now they are online too boot. Personally I prefer positive ads that sell me on what the candidate can do to make my life better. But, as loathe as I am to admit it, attack ads can be very effective if used right.

Well, with so many awful things that politicians do, there is certainly enough material to make many, many attack ads.

I am so glad that you post here and share your thoughts with everyone. I wish politicians that believe as you do were as open and honest as you are.

They make me dislike politicians more and in no way induce to me to actually vote.

How in the frick can you run against somebody like harry reid or nancy pelosi (or a toad who votes with them 98% of the time) and NOT hate that person? It's no different than hating roaches.

Generally I don't like them but what if what is being said is 100% true and not just opportune political spin?

"Negative" ads are sometimes necessary to point out mistakes, inexperience, corruption and other negatives your opponent has. Yeah, in a perfect unicorns and rainbow world all politicians would only run ads that highlight their accomplishments and ideas, but this is the real world. If your opponent is a dirtbag, you've got to point it out to some people.

BTW, despite people saying how much they hate negative ads, they work well.

Negative ads work and so that's why people use them.

Also, it's freedom of speech.
