The Avengers was pure popcorn entertainment. However, the film does not survive on its own. You will have had to watch all of the other MCU movies before you can dive into big event film. I had a lot of fun when I went to see The Avengers in theaters but still gave it a B+ because it didn't take any risks and Coulson's death didn't resonate for me as much as Marvel probably would have liked. However, when they brought Coulson back for Agents of SHIELD I think it kind of weakened The Avengers. After all, his death served as a catalyst for The Avengers finally setting aside their differences and teaming up to fight Loki and his army.

The Dark Knight Rises explored modern-day issues and resonated with me more for it. In this post-Dark Knight era, comic book films need to be something more than just sheer entertainment. They need to explore things that would not have been explored 15 years ago. We have definitely come a long way since that summer of 2000 when a little film called X-Men kind of jump-started this whole thing.

Nolan's movies had something at stake for me to care about

once the lights went out on Rachel dawes, I was on edge...anyone can die. In TDKR, that meant batman too.

you saw the people suffering as a result of the crime epidemic in all 3 movies, but in avengers you just see a building fall, you never see the people who get fricked when that building falls (say what you will for MoS, but we got to see the disaster killing people and had something at stake while they were terraforming )

It's objectively a much worse movie. It's not even about taste, it's about knowing what you're talking about.

No one has ever been a bigger know-it-all than you, DS.

Rachel Dawes was ultimately no more important than Coulson when it comes to character deaths.

Both were made specifically for the movies, both were used to move characters to action (and in Batman's case, being a cry baby quitter)

Her role was much better in TDK, they elevated her role, made a love triangle

Then killed her the theater went dead silent (midnight showing canal place) no one expected it, and you do care about her

Who is coulson? Is that the guy with 1 minute of screen time in 5 movies? Seriously I don't know who that is

could you show me where I've ever hated on these films? I'll wait.

I like Marvel films, I grew reading the comics, I just find it funny how Marvel fans react to any criticism of these films. Not just here, but on other sites as well. Go check out IMDB, posters over there are going nuts because so many critics are giving it bad reviews.

Well that's your assumption. I don't doubt people and critics will shite on the avengers to be the cool dissenting nerd, but if I'm being honest...I thought the avengers sucked. Not overrated, not meh, not ok...I thought it was a transformersesque turd. I think the first transformers movie is actually better

I saw it, it tickles my funny bone

I also like that fanboys have repackaged themselves as nerds (like hey, we're smart)

The avengers isn't nerdy. Superheroes aren't nerdy

Star Trek I is nerdy (and awesome)

Really? You can't remember the death that caused everyone to put aside their differences to kick Loki's arse?

Loki stabbed him in the back and through the heart. They even had to re-edit the scene b/c the MPAA was going to rate the film R over it.

He was also in Iron Man, Iron Man 2, and Thor.

I don't peruse the imdb forums, so I wouldnt know anything about that. I don't see anything wrong with anyone bashing the OP though. Marvel fan or not, that post just oozes dbag know it all.
