bad idea, sorry. its still a 20 ga but smaller/lighter = greater felt recoil. unless he is bigger than average. i bought a used 1100 and cut it down to fit for my oldest sons first shotgun after breaking him in on a .410

Anyone with non auto guns, I recommend ordering some RST shotgun shells for low recoil...
