Every ear it's got worse and worse. You can't even get in and out of the neighborhood because of all the undesirables parking all over the place in the front of the neighborhood.
Hired security should be an option paid for by the HOA IMO.

kids should have to show their papers (proof of Neighborhood residence) if they want candy or face deportation (back to their real hood)

Our HOA does. One Ascension Parish deputy at each entrance.

This is why you keep two baskets of candy: one basket of good chocolates for the neighborhood kids and another basket of peppermints for the travelers.

My community borders a local migrant village. They show up by the hundreds each year. Many don't have costumes and don't even make much of an effort to dress up.

I honestly don't mind the kids coming through. I'm happy to see them with a smile on their face.

What I find baffling is the adults who come through demanding candy. In addition, if the lights are off it means we're in bed. Don't ring my doorbell at midnight looking for a handout.

See, the migrants from last year provide the candy for this year.

I don't live in an HOA neighborhood (thank god) but I do get a good amount of non neighborhood kids, mostly because their parents drop them off at the church right behind my house

my general rule is this:

neighborhood kids get to pick the candy and how ever many they want, non kids get handed one piece of candy

call me an a-hole, I don't care

The neighborhood I live in is so unwelcoming we surely won't get anyone venturing in. There are only a few houses here; it's on a dark cul-de-sac with no street lights; no one keeps outside lights on; there is no sidewalk and all front doors are far removed from the street.

Happy Halloween!

I think it's just part of living in a subdivision. I got a boatload of candy. Come one and come all.

I'm more worried about older trick or treaters. Some of those "kids" look like they could be driving.

Since Halloween is on a Friday it's no problem for me this year, I'll be at the football game.

Gated Subdivision takes care of that problem.

My parents live on the south side of Laffy in a nice neighborhood with 30 or so houses. On Halloween a few cars as well as two school buses full of kids from the north side of Laffy show up for candy.
Once the neighbors realize what is about to happen, all the porch lights go out, doors lock, and nobody gets any candy. A hundred 6yr olds bumbed out and 15 responsible adults are now trying to explain they failures of their plan to the kids.

My Dad's opinion - you don't feed stray cats do you? Their parents are teaching them at an early to look for handouts that they feel they are entitled to. They ruin the trick or treating for the kids that live here. Do you want this in your neighborhood every year?
Mom's opinion - it's not the kids fault they live in shitty dangerous areas/gov housing. The adult chaperones are the ones trying to make a difference and get involved. They're just kids and it's just one night a year.

Was about to ask the same question

How would this be legal if the street is a public street? Only way I could see that being legal is if you get a permit to close off the street for a private festival. I live in the city, so all the kids around me go out to the suburbs to trick or treat.

There was a similar thread yesterday. I give them a kit-kit. I pick my battles. Halloween is not where I choose to engage in this type of social commentary.

I can afford the kit-kats.

I have a brother-in-law that lives in a neighborhood in Watson. We always bring our kids to trick or treat with their kids every Halloween.
