Not that I disagree but if you look at Catholic theologians you will see them say that he is speaking on his own personal opinion not speaking with Authority.

Even though if the Pope says something on faith and morals and you are Catholic you should listen to him.

Uh...yeah it is. The Church's stance on the death penalty isn't a discipline, it's dogma.
