Bingo. I love Louisiana. But there was no work for what I do there. I make $130,000 a year now, but had to leave every extended family member, friend and loved one behind. But you do what you have to do to feed your wife and kids. So I moved to Arizona and then Washington state.

They may have children who have special needs who would be disrupted if they move. They may lack the money to move. It can take a few thousands dollars to rent and pack up a U-Haul and take your family and take care of the various expenses to move.
Some people may have obligations to their church and feel a calling from the Lord to stay in their community. Some may be divorced and do not want to move away from their children and not have the frequent visits that are important.
Feel free to start a foundation to support people with these excuses.

It costs 5000 dollars to move out of state, and 2000 dollars to move intrastate.

If they are truly poor, what are they moving around that costs $5k? Get a bus ticket and find a job. $10k sign up bonus. GTFO with these excuses.

the oil jobs aren't in denver. they are on the western slope where housing is a lot more scarce, and you also have to jockey with seasonal workers for the cheap places.

If I sold every damn thing in my apartment on Craigslist, I could maybe cover one of those things, and my furnishings are middle-class stuff from Rooms to Go and IKEA. A poor person probably already got their shite from Craiglist. I guess arithmetic is liberal excuse-making though.

Haha man you have no clue what struggling really is. And driving is but one avenue of work that was highlighted. McDonald's fry cooks starting at $20hr. Think about the skills you likely have above a starting fry cook. Now what do you think you could do in a place starving for semiskilled labor? What do you think your pay would be.

I don't feel particularly sorry for the long term unemployed unless special circumstances exist, but i understand why they may not want to move to the middle of nowhere.
In life, sometimes you have to do a few things you may not want to do in order to take care of yourself and your family. If not, they have no right to cry when they get criticized for taking long term assistance.

As is your pathetic dodge and tumble now changing the subject from trucking to fast food. Where you still couldn't resist doubling the wages. You got a link for that $20/hr starting figure? Smells like meme to me when this story quotes a fast-food restaurant starting at $11/hr. Which, considering the moving costs and the housing costs in Williston, is not the value proposition you are imagining it to be.

The OP point is if you are unemployed and living in a community with a poor rate of employment, you can either "hope", or you can "change".
It is a choice. It is an available choice. To imply otherwise is dishonest.

It costs thousands of dollars to hire a moving company or rent a uhaul.

Consider it education for a nitwit know-it-all who couldn't sell "every damn thing in his apartment" for $3500.
Hell. Who knows? You might consider a move to the Dakotas yourself.

Why are you hiring a moving company??? Damn. I've moved close to 20 times without a moving company. It's just hard work. And that's for a full household of 4. And your not going there too live. You're going to work. Pack a bag and go if you're truly struggling. Problem is people aren't truly struggling but are just jealous of what others have when they demand govt mandated benefit increases.

Heck, you have to feel sorry for someone like that, don't you?
I'll bet moving costs alone would eat up that $10K bonus.

I don't like to talk in absolutes but usually anybody that is long term unemployed and either doesn't move, change careers or go back to school to increase their education level so that they can get a better shot at a job is a POS.
