Maybe I just don't get how people shite on this restaurant or others without ever trying it.

Haven't tried the new place. I know the chef's food has been well received in the past.

The old place didn't have an identity. Were they a restaurant or did they want to be a club? Same type issues I have with Pelican House. I didn't enjoy the food at all at LBT and it was weird and uncomfortable in there when the family and I went for dinner.

I will go try out the new place though to see how it is.

Agreed. It just had a strange feel to it.
I had really bad service both times as well, but I chalked that up to being new(2-3 months after opening). Server would disappear for 15-20 minutes. Come back smelling like smoke etc. Doesn't bother me as long as you have somebody watching tables. Waiters didn't know any of beer/liquor offerings and couldn't explain any of the food.

I just don't think the owners/managers were on top of their game with that place.

I will try Spice though.

Exactly this.

And FT is right: If the food is really good at Spice, I hate to see it not do well. I just think the place is climbing an uphill battle because they kept the same style of food that LBT had, the same decor and vibe that LBT had, and they have made zero effort to advertise or separate themselves from what was already there. Basically, it seems like the same place with a new name.

City Pork is an excellent example of branding done right. With the right PR, providing their food is good, Spice could be a success.
