I really think this is much ado about nothin'. The bear population is growing, but not significantly enough that its going to cause a noticeable decline in the deer population. You want to protect your herd? Shoot every coyote and hog you see.

I agree, for the moment. Right now, I doubt bears even account for a fraction of fawn kills, but I don't have a whole lot of faith in the state to be able to keep accurate counts of populations and be pro-active about keeping numbers at a good uniform level. It may take 20 years, but I think it will be a noticable problem before we're legally allowed to manage them ourselves like yotes and hogs.
