Exactly. I don't think anyone will argue that a bear is a threat to a full grown deer, but a day old fawn is the definition of an opportunistic kill. The biologists were adamant bears have learned when deer drop fawns and only actively hunt them during this time when they're easy pickings. I don't think they're any worse than other predators in this regard, but again the point is we'll have to wait until the state allows us to control this particular predator, and it's going to lead to some landowners being more affected than others.

I really think this is much ado about nothin'. The bear population is growing, but not significantly enough that its going to cause a noticeable decline in the deer population. You want to protect your herd? Shoot every coyote and hog you see.
