Food grilled over coals tastes better. I would not change my recommendations for a lady griller. It all depends on what you want to do:
If you just want to quickly grill some meat during the week, a gas grill is the most convenient. Webers are great and I really like Coyote grills for an outdoor kitchen setup. (There are also good cheaper options)
If you are trying to get more flavor grilling chicken, steaks...etc. with the ability to do some BBQ and don't mind a little extra time lighting a fire, then get a charcoal kettle (Weber is the classic).
If you want to really get into BBQ and grilling with easy high temp searing and don't mind spending a bit more, I would get a kamado cooker (green egg or primo for me).
