I think for the most part they all have done pretty fine.

How is one guy responsible for cancelling a show?
Posted on 10/14/14 at 9:51 am to TygerTyger
Get more people to watch your show and it won't be cancelled. The show was okay, but far from the groundbreaking, cultural giant that they seem to think it was.
And yeah, pretty much every single actor on that show has gone on to have a huge career. They need to let it go.

Yeah. It kind of sounds like Rogen was maybe giving this one guy an unreasonable amount of shite. But then again who knows.

What? Isn't that the be-all, end-all of television? Ratings.
Firefly was good too, but not enough people watched it.
If you're the guy who keeps saying that Empire is the best Star Wars movie, I don't feel bad about being on the list.

There are ways that networks can set up shows for success or failure such as advertising and airing times. Some people blame these things for those shows failing. Valid? I don't really know.

When it comes to Firefly?
Yes.
I doubt any serialized show would survive what Fox did in that case.

I'm one of them and would gladly do so in the New York Times, or wherever, under my own name.
F&G was an incredible show - full of potential of much more intelligent comedy than That 70s Show (which I enjoyed, but was, for the most part, really low brow).
And the cast was as good as any cast of young actors on a television show EVER. And that was obvious to anyone watching it at the time. All it needed was a couple of seasons to get going.
I guess Firefly wasn't the best science fiction series since Star Trek: The Original Series, either?

Ratings have a lot to do with marketing and not as much to do with quality. NBC jerked around the show all over the lineup (I watched it when it was on, and missed episodes because of its erratic schedule), and didn't let the show find its audience like it did for other shows that struggled initially... like Cheers or Seinfeld.
NBC essentially cancelled a show halfway through its first season that starred some of the biggest names in comedy of its generation, as well as two of the most successful writers/directors (Apatow and Feig). NBC clearly dropped the ball. They missed out on a bunch of talented people's best work, who would go on to immense success, which they had a 0% stake in. It was a critically acclaimed show that the people making loved doing by people about to become insanely popular.
NBC done fricked up.

They aired the FIRST EPISODE out of sequence. That's just crazy.

Yes...for networks. And that's why the quality of their TV shows is shite compared to Cable Channels.

I will say though despite it being cancelled prematurely it did have an immensely satisfying ending.
