You'll probably like it as long as you don't go reading the episode threads.

Sure, the ending has been done before, but I wasn't let down by it because of that.

SFP will prob show up and this thread will go 5 pages because of it, but his rants on the show never made sense to me.

He tried way too hard with True Detective IMO. Way too hard.

If you read episode threads, you would realize that the discussions here got to such a hyper bizarre crazy level that NO ENDING would have satisfied anyone.

I thought it was very fitting. It showed good character development and depth.

I don't want to get too much into spoiler territory.

maybe. But a half-decent one would have sufficed for me. It shat the bed. Like I said, still an awesome show.

Yes. I've watched the series twice and will watch it again. Own the bluray. End still sucked though

Haha. Those episode threads were classic. I remember some guy was pissed because dem titties was taking away from the artistic merits of the show.

People will criticize the ending because it's not what they expected, and there were a lot of expectations for the first season because of its connection to the old macabre stories of the late 19th, early 20th century pulp mysteries. Even if if would have ended with some of the theories that people came up with, then it would have been criticized for being too predictable. For the people that tried to delve too deep into it were setting themselves up for a lose lose situation.

I thought it was a really, really good show.

The ending fell flat for me, which is what keeps it from being great.

That, and I know this is nitpicking, but I felt like there were a lot of wasted scenes that were there just to show off how good the acting was.

I still really enjoyed it and plan on watching it again, though.

Which proves what some screenwriters or hollywood execs DONT get.

Character development comes first, fancy plot twist second.

It was fantastic all the way through in terms of execution and acting. The final episode is a wonderful example of how to shoot certain scenes in an artistic and breathtaking way while keeping the tension and suspense ratcheted up.

I wanted more of a wrap up at the end, but I think it ended in the fashion the show runner wanted and in a way that was, perhaps, more realistic than your standard detective story.

I finished the series last night

Question for the naysayers:

What the frick was your problem with the last two episodes?

I thought they were a continuation of greatness.
