Do it while you can. IMO
Before long, it won't be safe for an American to travel to many places outside of the US. You can already scratch the middle east and most of Africa off of your list.

Among the places I've been, Switzerland stood out. Also probably a country that would be okay if you're packin' the wife and a young one along with you. Tons of scenery, lots of free outdoor activities. Interlaken was incredible.
If money were no issue I would go to the following:
Bora Bora
Maldives
Lord Howe Island (NSW Australia)
