Europe was weird in the 90's.

Show a passport at Frankfort. "Business or pleasure"?

"Business".

"How long are you staying"?

"Less than 30 days". Thanks HR department!

No stamp, just a "proceed" to your luggage with an arm wave.

A couple of years later I flew into Amsterdam. Red eye, 3AM. Schiphol. There is nobody at the passport desk. I go to get my luggage and walk into this room with luggage piled upon luggage along the wall.

Netherlands is without a doubt, the most fricked-up country I have ever been in.

Hand over passports.

"What are you doing here?"

"Just going to look around a bit before our flight later today"

I find Europe as a whole to be pretty lax on passport security.

I flew into Munich and I don't even think they asked me where I was from. Just looked at my passport and waved me through
