Marco... Question since I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on some things.
The vandersteens... I've read a lot on their site and others. It looks like they come with detailed instructions on how to set them up. There seems to be a sweet spot for listening to them. As I've come to find out with most speakers that have anything to do with audiophile type listening.
It's just me and wife... We always have people over. If I'm playing music through these things and people are not in front of these in the "sweet spot" will they still sound good?
Our home is shotgun style. From front to back: living room (aka listening area), the dining area and then the kitchen. It's basically completely open from the front door to the back door.
I just don't want them to sound like crap if I'm cooking in the kitchen or entertaining people. I assume they won't, but this is a pretty solid investment and I want to make sure I'm doing it the right way for what I'm looking for. I also realize they won't sound as good as sitting in front of them... Just want to make sure I'm getting what I need.

You will be fine. Don't over think it--get 'em, plug 'em in, start playing music.
You won't be able to discern the finer points about the speaker until you log 1000 hours in front of them anyway...just like driving a new car--you feel a lot more confident about it's handling after 30k miles than 5 miles behind the wheel.
If you want to hear them in the back while in the kitchen--turn the volume knob to the right...
