But the facemasks definitely need to go.
So what happens when multiple players are diving for the ball and smash into each other on accident? Someone could easily get killed without the face mask.

They aren't going to play the same way without a helmet. Go watch rugby players with far less padding go for the ball and not get killed.

I don't know the rules of rugby, but are they throwing crossing routes like they do in football today? People playing rugby also grew up playing rugby... it's in their muscle memory. Do you honestly think people like Brandon Meriweather would suddenly be able to tackle rugby style efficiently?

Wut?
I'm saying Rugby players have been using less padding and the world hasn't ended and people aren't dying all over the place. There is a clear similarity in the games of American Football and Rugby, which is my point that padding isn't really as necessary as people say it is.

Rugby doesn't have near the impact. The speed and size of the collision. That's what the issue is. It's not just tackling.

hat is not the logic at all. no one adjusts their driving style based off of safety features.
do some research into 'risk homeostasis'

Muscle memory. It's absurd to think these DBs are suddenly going to drastically and radically change the kind of tackling they do in hundredths of seconds without some people getting seriously injured. Hell, Wes Welker busted up Talib's ribs last year by just a simple pick play.
I don't care if Vince Wilfork rugby tackles you, it's going to hurt.

Well you've made up your mind. Have a good day.

Lulz.
First of all, two completely different points. Vince Wilfork isn't a DB :D
Second of all, it's obvious you don't understand the concept of muscle memory.

muscle memory doesn't exist. The body does what the brain tells it to do. Now if your point is that the brain has been doing something for so long that adjusting would be very difficult, then make that point.
You've been walking the same way for a long time. Sprain your ankle and see if you walk with a limp. That's your brain registering a fear of pain and instantly adjusting.

Good point, I was using the incorrect phrase I guess, that was the point I was trying to make.

Yeah. I'm not gonna argue with a pro athlete about muscle memory. I'm sure he's right.

Yeah and FDR should win reelection in '36.

I think the term muscle memory is just a misnomer, I think the more appropriate term is motor memory.

As have you.
You never answered the question: "but are they throwing crossing routes like they do in football today?"
It is absurd to compare rugby and football. They are not close to being the same game.

Dear lord, did you ever play football? I was poked in the eye, face scratched, and other various injuries WITH A FACEMASK.

Or even use the current helmets (or a scaled-down version) without facemasks.
But the facemasks definitely need to go.
People would quite literally die on the field.

I would argue that the speed and size of the collision in football would adjust with removal of the equipment. The collisions are what they are because the players are wearing equipment.

Several articles "Concussions are the black lung of the NFL"....google and read.
The analogy makes sense; especially CTE being the canary in the coal mine.

That article is horrible. Pretty far fetched to compare NFL Players with Coal Miners. Coal Miners are subjected to terrible working conditions and low pay. NFL players get paid millions of dollars to play a game with access to millions of dollars of state of the art training equipment and medical personnel.
I agree that players that played prior to CTE being known have a claim but the effects are known now so any player stepping on that field should know the risk. In my opinion, players that continue to play knowing what they know are acknowledging the risk and consenting to play so they shouldn't be able to come back and complain in the future.
