depends on mass distribution too. More at the equator and less at the south pole means more gravity at the equator and less at the south pole. Duh. Physics 101 dumbass

Let's talk geology fake scientist...

quote:

English: Earth and atmosphere cutaway illustration
1: Crust
2: Moho
3: Upper Mantle
4: Low-velocity Zone
5: Lower Mantle
6: D"- Layer
7: Outer core
8: Liquid-solid boundary
9: Inner core
A: Troposphere
B: Stratosphere
C: Mesophere
D: Thermosphere
E: Exosphere

Now. Where do you think the mass is located? in that maybe quarter thick km of ice? Or in the much heavier basalt, asthenosphere, nickel and molten iron.

I'll leave you to figure that out.

Let's talk again about where you weigh more.

You weigh less at the equator due to centripetal force. Just stand up and spin fatso, it'll produce the same of effect to the cheese you dripped on your gut this morning.

I have a feeling you're the kind of student who is good at making outlines but doesn't actually understand shite.

After you just got destroyed by science again, fake scientist.

Oh and Im not a student. I actually have a doctorate.

I'll leave your idiocy to the side of the road.

The good news is this is a negative feedback mechanism! Less gravity at the south pole means the melting ice will flow into the ocean more slowly!

centripetal force is more or less at the poles?

FAIL, again, fake scientist.

Unless you mean "measurable, yet infinitessimal".

Because unless the Earth is actively losing mass due to this, it will all come out in the wash, cosmically speaking.

And I guess we survived all the tectonic plate shifts, ice ages and warming periods (there are fossils of ferns above the Arctic Circle, you now?) before mankind, so we'll likely survive this extremely brief moment in time when man was ever so slightly increasing CO2 concentrations.

look up the principle of isostacy.

the effects would be nearly impossible to measure.

I guess we can expect to see flying penguins from now on.

It all has mass. Duh. Are you actually suggesting ice is massless? My lord you're dumber than I thought!

That's not really a point in dispute, but nice factoid.

It was when you claimed that the added mass would be at the equator and increase gravity there.

Look up isostacy you fricking moron.

It does.

Gravity != centripetal force

I know that low gravity spot.

If you'd like to discuss it, let's talk about the geologic structure of the earth, isostacy, and how this won't have caused the fricking laws of physics to break down.

Oh. I was merely observing that I would assume that's the mechanism that those backing the article would cite. As I said, I find the article silly because quite obviously variance in gravity on this planet is not uncommon and as such, the article appears to be alarmist tripe.

lol, more ALgorean seance,, or is it science...

Antarctic Sea Ice Just Hit A New Maximum, But That Doesn't Mean The Continent's Not Warming

record ice increases... so naturally PANIC EVERYONE!!!

Look up isostacy you fricking moron.

Isostatic equilibrium is not reached instantaneously, and not all areas are in equilibrium at all times.

Ice melting at the south pole and dispersing around the oceans in a short period of time can certainly alter the local gravitational field, however minutely. A person walking around the room does the same, doesn't he?

shite. If I move my keys from my left to my right there's a change.

However convection in the mantle has a much greater effect on localized gravity than this example.

It's pathetic gotcha alarmist bullshite
