Is it worth the hassle?

You have to have extra space in your stand or setup and then perhaps do some drilling and plubming, want to know if its worth it in the long run

I utilized a sump pump to pump water out of the footings of my foundation.

I utilize your mom on a regular basis. You shouldn't call her such things though...she forced you out of her vagina.

I have sumps for each of my saltwater fish tanks. Couldn't imagine not having them.

I would think it would make filter maintenance easier. Plus you could get more water volume filtered without having ti have multiple canister or HOB filters. If I were starting new i would go with a sump. But I wouldn't go through the trouble of setting one up on any of my established tanks.
