If I may make a suggestion, NYC before Christmas is an absolute nightmare. The city is crowded, hotels are expensive, restaurants are packed, taxis are not available, everywhere you go will be mobbed. I have taken my family to NYC on Christmas day, and stayed in the city a few days after Christmas, and that is actually very nice. I've been able to get fantastic hotel rooms at reasonable rates, eat where I want, get tickets to shows, etc. Not sure if you have the flexibility to do that, but I recommend going after Christmas if you can.

ETA: the the Waldorf is a dump, avoid.

Appreciate the feedback. I am actually open to going after Christmas. If I can get a better value, why not? Not sure if I can convince the wife, but we'll see.
