I would not read too much into it. The FBI director is an appointed position. I know this is not the PT Board, but take that for what it is worth.
ETA: With the most recent ruling on cell phone in particular this is not as big an issue as the story or the director (who doesn't investigate $hit) make it out to be.
Riley v. California 9-0 decision for your reading pleasure.
Seeing as how I'm the only person providing controlling case law, yeah I think those of us in the field actually do.
Androids next update is supposed to follow suit.
