Whether it's an iPhone 6/6+ specific problem or not, it does make me further consider whether I want a phone with a large screen (for example, I'm considering the Galaxy Note 4) and how it will fare in my pockets (not necessarily durability, but comfort as well).

well it looks like you'll be fine as long as you avoid the new iPhones. Other phones do not have this problem

you're the most logical Apple person on here but you have to admit this is a horrible flaw

If the phone is bending by just sitting in a pocket, then yes, it's a horrible flaw. However, I guarantee that these phones were hit, banged or put under some unnatural stress that did not occur by just sitting in a pocket.

He's right, though, and I'm not an Apple person. Every year, there's a witch hunt. Apple is the most scrutinized of all the smartphone makers. Not because they release poor products, but because they are a popular, highly polarizing brand, and it makes for great headlines and click bait. Just google [insert phone brand] broke in pocket.

Or replace "broke in pocket" with "flaws" or "fragile" and see what happens. Everyone everywhere has something shitty to say about a particular consumer electronic product. But the actual shittyness of the product has little to do with how newsworthy the topic is. I worked in publishing for a few years, and I was editor-in-chief for a couple of those years, long enough to know that if I were given the choice between two stories -- for example, one about two huge flaws in the latest Android-based phone of any brand, and one about a single huge flaw in the latest iPhone -- the iPhone story would be the instant winner, or else I'd get a WTF e-mail from the publisher.

It's really just a matter of news outlets mutually agreeing on what generates clicks, and there are more iPhone users than there are users of any other specific line of smartphones. Just like McDonald's gets attacked and sued from every angle about their food being unhealthy, while the rest of the fast food industry conducts business as usual. McDonald's suffers the unfortunate side effects of being the face of fast food. And like it or not, the iPhone is still the face of smartphones.

I will be surprised if this bending issue turns out to be anything bigger than this week's headline.

wizz mentioned the HTC One not bending... it does. Just google it. But none of these phones have the saturation and publicity that the iPhone get. So any perceived "flaw" gets overblown because it means clicks for these websites and talking points on their forums. color has a point.

Exactly. Beat me to it.

@ConsumerReports: CR lab results: Takes at least 70lbs of force to permanently bend iPhone 6 and HTC One M8 #BendGate Video: LINK

@ConsumerReports: Lab tests in: iPhone 6+ withstood 90 pounds of force before bending #BendGate Video: LINK

Two days ago, the Internet erupted with photos of bent iPhone 6s, and a very-viral video of a guy creasing an iPhone 6 Plus with his bare hands. It seemed like a serious concern, yet everything about the uproar was highly unscientific. We don’t like unscientific, so we promised then that we would use our lab equipment to find out just how delicate the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus really are. We also promised to run the same tests on comparable smart phones. We’ve done that now, and our tests show that both iPhones seem tougher than the Internet fracas implies.
