Lets just start the NHL Season thread.

Its cool to see the interest in the NHL and hockey rising a little here.

To LSUTigerfaninHtown and the other Blues fans..

I'm currently working on getting credentials to cover the Chicago Wolves, the Blues AHL affiliate. If everything works out I am going to try to post a weekly minor league update for you guys

Good luck with that. I'll keep an eye out for those updates.

The Blues drop their second preseason game. Once Elliot was replaced by Lundstrom in the third, things didn't go so well.

Lundstrom is not NHL ready. Has tools etc. to make it to the show but developing goalies is just a crazy endeavor in the NHL.

You wont see many goalies going high in the draft and those that do often don't pan out.

Yeah, I read plenty about that yesterday.

Good to know.

The Blues SUCK at bringing along and developing young goalies.

The fact Jake Allen is set to be the Back-up/2-A to Elliot is a small miracle.

Just got back from the CBJ/Pens game.

-Dubinsky looked awesome. Amazing how he could hold his own against the boards. Showed great pick handling and decision making.
-Jack Johnson looked really good as well.
-Need Joey back. Just didn't have an offensive threat. But Calvert and Jenner didn't play either.
-Chaput looked real good, I think he'll get a roster spot.
-Bob had a solid 30 save appearence through 2 periods.

Can't wait for the season.

Now that Columbus is in a different conference I am pulling for them.

Great fan base going for a late 90's expansion team. Its like they have been here all along. Honestly hated to see Columbus and Detroit go to the East as a Blues fan.

Either this Red Wings defense is really bad, or the Blackhawks offense is really good. They've had about 15 scoring opportunities the last 5 minutes

Judging from stats on the Nashville game this evening:
- Forsberg was a beast with a goal and 9 shots but went -2 Despite scoring a goal; nonetheless a good sign if he wants to make the team
- Fiala drew a penalty but also committed a penalty. 16.5 minutes and zero shots. Going to have to do better than that against pre-season talent if you want to make the team.
- As far as other mediocre play for guys on the bubble: Sissons, Salomaki, Arvidsson all basically did nothing, despite the first two being strong offensive talent in the AHL and the latter being strong in the Swedish league.
- Diaby looks like he wants to take McGratton's old role as a fighter.

That's about it. In other news around the league here's what to watch for tomorrow:
- Watch for Michael Del Colle tomorrow Islanders vs. Canes; guy is supposed to be a beast.
- If you can catch it, would definitely watch Toronto vs. Ottawa, may be the only time you get to see Toronto win against a Canadian team all season.

In other news, Phlly fans boo ice boys

So a couple of disturbing things:
1) Why would you ever replace hot women with male cheerleaders. Seriously? Just don't have 'em.
2) Really disappointed in Wyshynski for even entertaining the discussion. There's a lot of hockey to talk about. I love the drama of the pre-season; careers are ending and careers are starting.

Even if you are just a sidewalk fan that only watches during the playoffs, you have to admit that cutting the roster down from like 60 guys to 25 over the next 2 weeks or so lends itself to a lot of drama; essentially 35 guys vying for 10 spots. A story on the Ice Boys? give me a fricking break. No shite they got bood in Philly. I would boo them too.

Look at this shitty lineup he Pens are rolling with tonight against the CBJ

What do you expect? Crosby, Malkin, Dupuis, Kunitz probably won't play until the last game or 2 of preseason and just a few periods, if that.

Dumoulin, Harrington, and Samuelsson are top prospects though on defense, and Kapanen was our 1st round pick who may make the team as a rookie without any time in the minors (played in a pro league in Finland and on Team Finland in Olympics).

That sucks for the Hurricanes. Oh, wait... those fans saw a Stanley Cup and probably couldn't name five guys on the squad. Also, they stole the Whalers.

Screw them.

As a kid that grew up in CT and was a whalers fan (what's not to love about $10 tickets with a high school ID?) I can honestly say frick the whalers. They were barely drawing 15k as a crowd, and would only sell out when NY or Boston were in town. Hartford cannot and will not support a team. They traded Ron Francis for john Cullen. Who the frick does that? And then Ulf for Zarley Zalapski? What in the fricking frick????? The only thing they had was a cool logo. Shitty fans, shitty management, shitty coaching.

That would be like the blues trading Paul stasny and kevin Shattenkirk for Braden Schenn and Michael del zotto

I was a fan from ages 9-19 and they fricking do that to me. I would burn down the Hartford civic center if Paul holmgren and Brian Burke were the only people inside if I were half the man I claim to be

Columbus does $10 tickets in the last row for all home games. It's a good deal.

But you can scalp good tickets for a little more in the lower bowl.

Man, back in the day all you needed to do is show up with a student ID, and they would give you any unsold ticket in the place for $10. It was awesome.

Any ticket in the place, except for the first like 10 rows, but who cares.

To compare / contrast: The last 5 seasons in Hartford, attendance averaged 11,500.

Let that sink in.

Columbus averages 25% more.

Nashville averages 40% more.

They don't deserve a franchise. I don't know why people are nostalgic for them. They weren't supported. They had a guy from my area, Ted Drury who was on the squad when they moved to Carolina. Hometown hero and they fricking move. I hate them for it.

In other news, The Vancouver Sun refers to Jordan Subban as "The dark guy in the middle" of a picture they ran.

We are going to be throwing out a janky lineup against the blues tonight.

quote:

Forwards: Craig, Hjalmarsson, D'Amigo, Tyrell, Chaput, Boll, Hartnell, Sedlak, Letestu, Dano, Moutrey, Foligno.

Defense: St. Denis, Goloubef, Prout, Sifers, Tyutin, Larkin.

Goalies: McElhinney, Forsberg.

Interested to see Hjalmarsson since he is the most eye opening player so far. I hope Chaput can keep it going, he looked good Tuesday.

Marko Dano has the best name since Marco Polo
