I've made that same argument about the liberal media on political talk. It didn't go over well, but I wholeheartedly agree that it's a financial decision.

This "liberal media" are now owned by some of the biggest corporations in the world. Those corporations didn't become the biggest corporations in the world because they were "liberal."

It's ignorant and naive to think that some probably-liberal reporter really has any kind of editorial control over his content. When his bosses and owners decide his liberalism doesn't help their bottom line, he's silenced.

Actually Fox News is the most watched political channel so liberal doesn't always mean more money and eyeballs.
