Any of ya'll go on the Lost tour in Hawaii? T'was a good time but not sure if they do it anymore.

Not this guy. I remember WTFing people on here who were saying they were dead the whole time. (Btw, Byron, they thought that because during the final credits, they showed some footage of the island like the parts of the plane from the crash and whatnot, and they took that to mean that it was significant and meant they died in the initial crash as opposed to it just being a reverent homage to the show in general).
It was very clear (that they were dead in the flashes sideways) IMO when Christian explained it, and even moreso when they all moved on into the afterlife/heaven. You even have Hurley outside talking to Ben about it and Ben says that he basically isn't finished atoning for his sins and still needed time to do more things.
I don't look down on people who didn't get it, but it was definitely fairly clear IMO.

Ok I don't remember episode names like y'all
I loved the twists and turns. There were times I couldn't stop watching. What I hated were disappearing storylines. Aaron and Walt are great examples. The characters growth though it'swhat I've enjoyed the most. Jin in particular.

Just wanted to jump on here and congratulate everyone for such an enjoyable read - this thread was fantastic.
While many disagree on the direction of the narrative, the resolution or lack of one, the loose ends, etc., I have always felt that the final scene, Jack's death that is, with the grand version of the score in the background, was a touching and outstanding scene, and one of the best in television history. Matthew Fox was outstanding. It made me cry as if I had lost a dear friend, one that I remembered fondly and would miss. The character development for this show was something I had never seen on television before.
Emotional television - and that is what made it great for me. I cared.
I know the story ended there . . . but wouldn't you have loved to see what Hurley would have done on the island? Would he have talked James/Sawyer into coming back for some crazy adventures?

I really don't think Sawyer would ever want to return to the Island. Too many memories of Juliet there, and he lost her to the Island. Plus Sawyer I'm sure would want to be a good father to his daughter, and is say would likely go on to be a major author at the end of it.
Kate is the only one I can see returning to the Island. Her life was probably absolutely miserable after returning from the Island, and likely became one of the 5 most recognizable people in the world, since she was the only one who left and returned twice. The media shite storm around her would be upon the likes that has never been seen, and I'm sure she'd be getting constant death threats from the loved ones of both flights. They know she at least knew what would happen the second flight, since Hurley bought out half the tickets on the flight. The amount if History Channel documentaries on this subject would be incredible. Kate's only saving grace would be to go back to the Island, and live out the remainder of her life on it.

I will add why the finale is good with me. The main point/argument of the show, IMO, was the Faith vs Science argument played out by the 2 main characters (Jack and Locke)
It's shown at the end (last couple of seasons) that Jack has finally accepted the Faith part.
Why would people be pissed about them creating a 'purgatory' in the afterlife so they could all meet up and move on?
The ending was perfect. Emotional end to a great journey.
Lost, The Wire, And Breaking Bad are my top 3 shows of all time.
ETA: I watched all 3 of the shows, along with The Sopranos (my#4) for the first time within the last year and a half. Lucky me!

I would be interested to see the number of Atheist who hate the show. I bet a large chunk of the people who hated Lost and the finale, hated it because they hate religion / fatih.
Just like a large chunk of the people who hated the True Detective finale probably fit in that same group.

I just finished this for the first time too. I loved the finale. Thought it was perfect. There were unanswered questions, but I was ok with that because I am in the "dead the whole time camp." In the end, alive or dead, the show was a fun watch.
I refuse to believe they were alive on the island the whole time. To me, the island was purgatory, and the flashsideways was the transition from purgatory to moving on. There are just too many things that do not add up on the island for it to have been real. In no particular order...
Surviving a nuclear explosion
A smoke monster
A man that does not age
A man that dies and comes back to life
A man that takes the form of a dead man
Christian, who was in a casket on 815, lends a helping hand on the island various times
Time travel
The rules of the Island
If you believe that the showrunners just played fast and loose with the rules of the island and time travel, why is it hard to believe that they just made up that everyone was alive on the island after the fact? Especially, with many people having predicted/ guessed that the island was purgatory... better flip the script! No, they were alive the whole time, that was real!

Clearly, "life" was figurative, meaning journey. They all needed each other on the island to help one another finally let go. If you expect me to believe the island was all part of their life, how about some, any, explanation for..

ETA: and if everything that happens on the island is just dada, and anything can happen on the island because it is special, then there is no reason I cannot think that the entire show was about death.
