Wife is getting a Nikon 1 J3 for christmas. Looking for accessories that are kind of must haves, suggestions, etc. Looking for maybe different lenses, remote, flexible tripod, wireless/bluetooth picture transfer, etc. TIA

I'd definitely get a tripod and IR remote for any camera. What does your wife intend to do with it? Does she have any photography experience or any intent to learn? Or is she just into snapshots and wants a better camera to use?

Flex tripod is junk. Buy a good tripod, the start $150 and up.
You can get her a cheap nifty 50 lens, about $120. They have better ones, but go up very fast.
Get a Blackrapid sling. They run about $80 and is worth their weight in gold.
Nikon doesn't use SD cards, so not sure about instant transfer for it.
Remotes are very cheap. A wireless one is $20.
Of all the things I listed, the Blackrapid is probably the best recommendation

I don't think he's looking at a Dslr.

I for sure want to get a tripod and IR remote. She doesn't have much experience. It's more or less snapshots that she wants better quality than just a point and shoot. It's for family photos, vacations, sporting events, etc. Not gonna be zooming in on a caterpillar on a leaf or anything like that.

Sounds like you're talking more DSLR. The Nikon 1 isn't a DSLR.

Get her a nice camera bag.
Epiphanie bags or Kelley Moore are brands Mrs. Radtiger suggests.

Ok. I was thinking DSLR when you asked about different lenses.

Well the Nikon 1 J3 has a lens and you can actually change out the lens with more intense lenses.

Let her start with the lens it comes with. If she ends up finding a void that she feels she's missing with it, upgrade. Right now, you'd be taking a stab in the dark and what you buy may never end up used.

tLSU so what would you consider must haves and do you have any links for them? Tripod, IR remote, bag, ??

I don't know a whole lot about that specific camera. I'd get a small, non-flexible tripod she can use in the event you want to take a family photo, etc. As far as the IR remote, type the model of the camera in Amazon/EBay and then "IR remote". It should be $20 or less. Bags are the same way. Best to read reviews on Amazon and pick what fits you best.
Be thankful or hopeful she keeps it simple and doesn't let it turn into a money sink like some of us here.

Thanks. Luckily for me I married one thats smart with her money. She told me to handle finances and agrees that our first purchase once she finishes nursing school is a a new/new to me truck.

Learning some basics from almost any book on basic photography will have a larger impact on the quality of her photos than just changing equipment.

Before you buy something like a new lens try renting it from lensrentals.com. My experience with Nikon 1 system (called mirrorless or interchangable lens camera [ILC]) was from renting a Nikon J2 and 18.5 f/1.8 lens from lensrentals.
Highs:
* Focus speed and tracking (it's incredible, on par with mid-level DSLRs and better than any other mirrorless camera)
* Video quality and autofocus during video
* Nearly silent shutter and no slapping mirror means you can unobtrusively take pictures in places like museums or during kids' recitals.
* If your pocket is big enough it really is a pocketable camera.
Lows:
* Nikon really could make the menu system easier to use. Something functions that I like to change often aren't easy to get to.
* Images get noisier in low light faster than they do in DX DSLRs because the sensor is smaller.
I'd investigate and see if Richard Franiec's camera grip for the J1 fits the J3. My dad had a Canon S90 with his add-on grip for it and it made the camera much easier to hold. There really isn't much for your right hand fingers to grab on to on the front of an S90 or J2/J3.
For information on lenses I recommend Thom Hogan's guide to the Nikon 1 system: System Guide to Nikon 1

I'm a Nikon serious shooter... and would not recommentd the 1 series unless you have money to play around with for fun. It's a small, light, compact system and the startup is fairly cheap for what you get.
But... additional lenses and accessories are pretty expensive and image quality is only so-so due to the very small sensor size.
If I were going to look at a small frame camera, I would look at a micro four thirds model where the lens choices are top notch, probably a body from Olympus or Panasonic. If she is interested in video, I would go with a MFT Panasonic hands down.
