However, it is good to see some affirmative evidence that fracking, in and of itself, is not some harbinger of a Love Canal type disaster.
That evidence has been out there for a long time. It's been kind of an inconvenient truth for the enviros who've been hanging their hat on the whole "fracking = bad" thing.

What does a study like this do to/for the opposition to drilling in St. Tammany? Is it a comparable situation to the fears of those residents or is it an apple/oranges type situation?

I don't know enough about fracking to have an informed opinion and the only concern I know the St. Tammany residents have has to do with the aquifer.

Jesus Christ in heaven, what a refreshing response.

This issue and climate change bring out all the wannabe scientists on each side of the aisle and their respective brand of partisan science.

One thing that isn't as obvious from the summary is that they did find contaminated sites that were not caused by natural seepage like those on the pro-drill side had argued. I also seem to recall a disclaimer of some sort in there about more study being needed.

The Department of Energy report, released Monday, was the first time an energy company allowed independent monitoring of a drilling site during the fracking process and for 18 months afterward. After those months of monitoring, researchers found that the chemical-laced fluids used to free gas stayed about 5,000 feet below drinking water supplies.

So energy companies finally allow independent monitoring and Obama's Dept of Energy releases a report showing no connection between fracking and water pollution?

I'm in impressed Udtiger. You're giving props to the Obama administration.

Well not really. You're too much of a hack to do so. But you should. But you won't.
