an ULALA fan wishing and hoping LSU is slumping so that they can become relevant although they never will?

Gotta be an SEC team I'd think. Like someone else said earlier, the bar is set too high with too many good teams.

Can we say Florida or are they already there? Obviously Kentucky is much improved but even the slightest break their way and we're talking about how fricked Florida's program is right now. Maybe wait a year and check on them then?

Otherwise it's hard to say. Barring Nick Saban suddenly retiring I don't see any of the West's Big 3 dropping off in the near future, and if we count A&M as a powerhouse, we still don't see them dropping either. Georgia could "slump" into 8-4 again, but that's not really a slump, is it? Tennessee's not only already in a slump but looks to be trending upward.

Florida's my best answer, if it's not them then it's one of the Big 3 in the West and it'll be out of nowhere.

In the OP's post he said

but which current successful powerhouse will be the next to catch the "down disease"?

Stanford has been a powerhouse team since Andrew Luck has been there. If we're only picking traditional powers that aren't in a slump at this moment it really thins who to choose. You have Ohio State, Bama, LSU, FSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, Auburn, Notre Dame, and I guess Oregon to choose from.

If Bob Stoops goes to the Dallas Cowboys, I could see Oklahoma falling off the radar pretty soon. As much as I dislike Stoops, he's a great head coach who revived that program when it was really down.

???

Pretty sure they are in a slump.

They went from being the most dominant college program in the nation between 1993-2001 and haven't reached a BCS game or won a conference title since. Pretty sure they are in their slump.

From 2001-2007, LSU played and won BCS games in 4/7 seasons (including 2 titles). Since then they've played in (and lost) a BCS game in 1/6 seasons. For a program that was playing at an Elite level, I'd saying go on a 6 season BCS win dry spell is a bit of a slump.

The last 3-4 years, LSU has been playing in the best division in the history of College ball.

I wouldn't classify LSU has being in a slump honestly.

LSU is just getting wound up again. We will win another SEC and NC in the next 2-3 years.

I disagree, they were very close to winning the last two BIG XII championship games ever played against very good Texas and Oklahoma teams (and were a controversial second from beating Texas).

Should be one of the favorites this year to win the Big Ten. They have the talent, facilities, fan base and money that they should be able to compete for the Big Ten West division on a yearly basis and return to being a 10+ win team each year and a Rose Bowl appearance and/or playoff appearance every few years.

I believe they are very close to being on the next level, just have to get over the hump.

Granted they will never get back to the level they were at during the 90's and no team probably ever will match that run, but there is no reason they can't become a regular Big Ten/Rose Bowl/Playoff contender.

I wasn't going to respond to this, but it's too ignorant not to.

LSUs record since the 07 NC is 61-18 while playing in the toughest conference in America enjoying a level of dominance that is one of if not the greatest in college football history. They've put more players in the NFL than any school in the country and are continuing to recruit at an ridiculously high level. Les Miles has failed to win 10 games twice in his nine year and counting tenure. But because they haven't played in BCS games while in a conference where everyone is succeeding on a high level, theyre in a slump?

Go enjoy your NO Bowls and trying to convince the country to call your team by the wrong name. Call me when something relevant to major college football happens in Lafayette.

LSU also plays in arguably the best division in sports in the toughest conference.

Any semblence of decline isn't even there.

LSU. Miles either leaves for Michigan when it opens up after this or next year. Or the more delusional LSU fans that think he is a bad coach get him fired in about 3-5 years.
Either way LSU will not get a coach even half as good as Miles to replace him. Downturn begins.
