Bro, I drink so much water my sodium in my blood was actually a little low the last time they checked. Helps a lot but only so much you can drink every day.

A gallon a day is about the most I could do.
Anymore than that and I'm pissing every 30 min.

Several years ago I noticed that I was flagged for a high Uric acid # on my annual blood work results. I had no clue what Uric acid was....until. It may have been 6 months after that test result when I had my first experience with it.

The high levels of uric acid cause "crystals" to form in the joints. Those things are there for the long haul, and you'll know it in your old age; i.e. arthritis.

Allipurinol is the answer.

Yep, the uric acid crystallizes in the joint. No fun. The inflammation causes fluid buildup in the joint and over the nerve going under the big toe. Even less fun.

All in all (having experienced both), it's right up there with kidney stones. Not quite as bad, but almost. And the pain is unrelenting.

Take Allopurinol, a strong anti-inflammatory (indomethacin is the best), and hydrocondone for the pain at night if necessary. Go to the DPM and have some fluid drawn off the joint, and have it shot up with cortisone. That usually helps tremendously.

Drink the black cherry juice, and after the acute stage passes, eat some dried tart cherries (Trader Joe's) every day. These taste great, as opposed to the juice.

Dr. Kemp Tullier is the best in town for this.

It runs in my family. I get a twinge or two once in a while, but nothing bad. It put my dad in the hospital once or twice until he got on something to control it (Allopurinol?) Hasn't bothered him too much since.

I have had gout since 2006. It is incredibly painful. I have gotten it in my toes, ankle and knee at different times. The information about the crystals forming and genetics are correct. Also correct are that red meat, beer (alcohol of any kind) and shellfish are the things that instantly elevate the likelihood of an attack. I have had some brutal attacks over the years. My last was this past January. I changed my diet drastically. I no longer eat whatever I want. I watch every morsel. I dropped the soft drinks too and that helped. It is a fallacy to believe it is a disease for fat, old and overweight people. I am fit and have been for a very long time. I would recommend that you see a Rhuematologist about your condition. Allopurinal works for me. I hope you get the relief you need. This condition is not a joke. It will bring the strongest people to their knees.

Also try and get some colchicine. The allopurinol will work too, it will just reduce the inflammation and not get rid of the crystals.

Increased uric acid levels in the body causing joint pain. It's most commonly in the big toe, but it can also go to the ankle and knee.

It's actually caused by too much purines in the body and from increased activity of the enzyme xanthine oxidase. FYI.

I experienced gout in my left big toe this summer. Felt like a blowtorch was pointed at my toe. Attack lasted about 10 days. You don't want it.

Drink lots of water. Mix one tablespoon of baking soda and water and lemon sqeezed every morning when you wake up.

Eat fresh cherries everyday.
