Imagine that, without a positive male influence in his life, a kid gets raised to be a pussy and run to tell on someone else instead of standing up for himself.
Sometimes you lose even if you "win" unless you fight your own battles.

As said before, my rules are more important than this zero tolerance bullshite. If he's tried the teacher route and it's not working the boy needs to defend himself.

No, not always and you can't confidently make this blanket statement. As it's been presented here it is obviously not working.
He needs to teach his son how to defend himself. It is very important at such a young age. Before you know it, this kid will be pussified and there will be no turning back once it's ingrained in him to let people walk all over him.

Bad advice. The little guy needs to learn to defend himself. Nows a good time to learn. Or whats he gonna do when he's 25 and gets pushed on the street....call the cops?
The dad already went to the teacher, who went to the principle and they replied back bud did nothing about it. Writing to the principle doesn't affect the bully. Hitting the bully will get through to him. Anyway most bullies at that age are just pussies to begin with.
